Does the idea of going to your closet each morning make you feel uninspired? Do you feel that age-old conundrum of having plenty of clothes but nothing to wear? Closet Couture to the rescue, a website that allows you to post your wardrobe online and let others help dress you. In addition, sitting calmly at your desk with a coffee and biscotti while planning your outfits can be much more pleasant than having two minutes to grab something out of a closet where you can only see the edge of each item. Clearly seeing your wardrobe in pictures will shed a new light on what you have and enable you to do it at your leisure. In this economy, when everyone is “shopping their closet”, you can make it feel like you are shopping your closet online.
Okay, so how does it work? You create an account and take photos of your clothes against a plain background. When you are uploading, hit a button and the software deletes the background so you have a crisp, clean cut out of your item of clothing. Makes it look new and fresh. Don’t worry that you have to upload everything because they have basic items like jeans and white tees that you can add from the site. Once you have wardrobe items uploaded, you can go to your Dressing Room and create outfits. You simply drag and drop items from your wardrobe onto your silhouette. You can resize them and move them. Sure, the proportions look a bit off, but you know how your clothes fit.
Want a fresh eye to help you pick out your clothes? Closet Couture has a social component. You become friends with others and then they may look in your closet and put outfits together for you. Possibly in a way you never imagined. It’s like having cool, fashionable friends over to your house without having to clean.
Additional cool features are to be had such as a link to participating retailers such as ShopBop and TOMSshoes who allow you to shop and add items to your wish list. You can try items you have not yet purchased on your silhouette with the clothes that you own. Need even more help? You can hire stylist to put together outfits for you from your wardrobe. It certainly saves the hassle of trying on the clothes.
Have a difficult time packing for a trip? Create a packing list in Closet Couture. Much more fun than a scribbled list on paper. Maybe you’ll even be able to pack less when you see how to combine fewer clothes into many outfits.
If you have multiple important events in your life and don’t want to duplicate outfits, simple put that outfit on your Closet Couture calendar, so you’ll know when you last wore it. This won’t be a feature I need to use at the moment, but a girl can dream.
Even Vogue found Closet Couture to be worthy. It certainly has many great tools for the fashionista. The question is, will it help the average Jane?
